Pages 1265-1270 | Published online: 07 Jul 2010

Abstract

In this letter we propose and validate a sea surface fractal model suitably tailored for the application of ocean remote sensing by means of active sensors. The model includes both statistical and fractal properties of the surfaces and also accounts for the linear behaviour of sea waves' generation and propagation.

This work was supported by the ‘Agenzia Spaziale Italiana’(ASI) through the project ‘Development and validation of a sea surface fractal model’. The authors also thank the ‘Servizio Idrografico e Mareografico Nazionale’ for providing the measured spectra.
