Abstract
This paper concerns the time variation in mean sea surface temperature measurements on a regional scale by using AVHRR data. The studied algorithm uses sub‐pixel resolution, precise geolocation and determination of the cloudy pixels. In order to indicate cloudy pixels, thresholds based on regional temperature maps are applied instead of the average temperatures of the Mediterranean Sea. Special calculations have been made for coastline pixels. The zone considered is the sea off the Tuscan region of Italy.
