The geometric parameters of solar wind discontinuities based on STEREO, ACE and WIND measurements

Abstract

A case study of solar wind discontinuity geometry analysis, based on magnetosphere satellites Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory (STEREO) A, STEREO B, ACE (Advanced Composition Explorer) and Wind measurements in 2007, is presented. The normal wind direction obtained by different spacecraft, depending on the cross spacecraft distance, has been analysed. The value of the curvature radius of a discontinuity's front appeared to be independent from the spatial scale within the range of STEREO A and STEREO B observation. The curvature radii of processed events were estimated to be of the order of a thousand R E (where R E is the radius of the earth).
