Andrew and Annelie Thorndike shaped East German documentary filmmaking, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s. Both of them worked for DEFA Studios.

Already in the Pre‐IAMHIST era this film was the subject of a conference of the IAMHIST founders in Brandbjerg/Denmark, 1973.

Gerhard Scheumann's reason for the decision to go separate ways: ‘Our ideas on certain standards and values have diverged a lot within the last months.
