Abstract
This paper presents the results on electrodialysis of tartaric acid. In this connection, the mathematical models were developed to predict the acid concentrations in the diluate and concentrate compartments and the potential difference across the electrodialysis pair. Moreover, the so-called shadow effect of the spacer, which influences electrical resistance of the diluate and concentrate compartments, was determined by taking into account the spacer construction and conductivity of the acid solution. In all the experiments, ion–exchange membranes Ralex-AMH-PES and Ralex-CMH-PES manufactured by the Mega, Inc. Company (Stráž pod Ralskem, the Czech Republic) were used.
