ABSTRACT

Increased concentration levels of uranium (U) in ground water from nuclear applications and use of fertilizers, is of concern as it may enter human body through drinking water and food. Removal of the heavy metal from such large volumes of environmental waste water as well as from tap water demands development of efficient, simple and cost effective technologies. Amongst others, adsorption of U by magnetite shows great promise. In the present study, a novel approach has been made for separation of the heavy metal by in-situ generated magnetite from aerobic corrosion of mild steel.
