ABSTRACT

Chaenomeles (called Mugua in China)

is an important material in the food industry, and XuanMugua is the only one which is allowed to serve as a homology of medicine and food in China. This study was conducted to develop an effective extraction method for XuanMugua by autoclaving treatment hyphenated with reflux. Hyphenated extraction method gave 19% higher extraction efficiency, 5% higher content of polysaccharides, and 29% higher content of triterpenes than single reflux. Furthermore, it improved the antioxidant activities of Mugua by increasing DPPH radical scavenging by 0.80 times and similar ABTS and hydroxyl radical scavenging abilities.
