Accounting Forum “Best Paper” and “Outstanding Reviewer” Awards

At the last Editorial Board meeting (November 2020), we announced the institution of a “Best Paper” award and an “Outstanding Reviewer” award, with the main objective to recognize the work of our authors and reviewers.

We initiated this process in March 2021 by consulting our Associate Editors and Editorial Board members. After deliberation, it is with great pleasure that we announce the winners of the Accounting Forum “Best Paper” and “Outstanding Reviewer” awards for 2020.

For Best Paper (2020, Volume 44):

The winners are Mirwais Usmani, Jane Davison and Christopher J. Napier for their paper entitled: The production of stand-alone sustainability reports: Visual impression management, legitimacy and “functional stupidity in Volume 44 Issue 4. This award is particularly poignant as the lead author of this paper, Mirwais Usmani, sadly passed away last year. We are pleased to pay tribute to his hard work and scholarship.

The following two papers, both from Volume 44 Issue 2, were also Highly Commended:

  • Fortescue vs Yindjibarndi: Land rights and welfarism in third spaces by Margarita Guevara, Lee Moerman & Sanja Pupovac

  • From critical accounting to an account of critique: The case of cultural emancipators by Vassili Joannidès de Lautour, Danture Wickramasinghe and Nicolas Berland

For Outstanding Reviewer (2020):

The award for “Most Outstanding Reviewer” goes to Hannele Mäkelä (Tampere University)

The following people were also Highly Commended:

  • Nadia Albu (Academia de Studii Economice din Bucuresti)

  • Claudia Arena (University of Naples “Federico II”)

  • Daphne Lui (ESSEC Asia-Pacific)

  • Warren Maroun (Wits University)

  • Hui Situ (RMIT University)

We would like to thank our Associate Editors and Editorial Board members for taking the time to vote for these awards and hope you will join us in congratulating the winners.
