Abstract

We wish to acknowledge our indebtedness to Eva Cox, Fran Hausfield and Sue Wills whose original paper “Taking the Queen's Shilling: Accepting Social Research Consultancies in the 1970's”, was the source of inspiration for reflection on the links between academic research and social policy in the 1990's.
