Social Work with Groups

Special Issue: Social Group Work in Mindfulness-Based Interventions Guest Editor: Diana Coholic

The delivery of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are increasingly popular across a wide variety of educational, clinical, and community settings for diverse populations and challenges.

Most MBIs, including the well-known Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy programs, are offered in group formats. MBIs and mindfulness-based practices are also being facilitated in elementary, secondary and post-secondary classroom settings. However, to date, there has been little attention paid to the social group work aspects of offering MBIs to groups of adults and young people.

The journal is inviting articles discussing social group work and MBIs, and other mindfulness-based practices/activities for people of all ages in an array of settings. Submissions may reflect the perspectives and experiences of helping and health practitioners, researchers, educators, field instructors, students, and/or agency administrators.

Articles of special interest include:

  • Practice examples of the use of social group work in MBIs and other mindfulness-based practices in any form of group, for example, small and large groups, single-session groups, mandated or voluntary, closed, open-ended groups, task groups, or collectivities

  • Transformational experiences and other benefits and/or challenges that emerged out of the group process in MBIs

  • Education, workshops, or other training and teaching programs/activities that support the use of social group work in the delivery of MBIs and other mindfulness-based practices

  • Critical analysis of the use of purposeful group work in MBIs and other mindfulness-based practices, training, and so forth.

Practice articles should include illustrations of group interaction between group members and between group workers and members, to highlight the theoretical concepts presented.

Submissions must conform to Social Work with Groups submission guidelines that appear in the Journal or at Taylor and Francis website/site address: http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authors/wswgauth.asp

Manuscripts should be E-mailed to Guest Editor Dr. Diana Coholic at: [email protected]
