1Chadwick joined the Navy in 1940 and served as a seaman. In 1942, he began intelligence duties, working on Italian naval codes in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1944, Chadwick transferred to Bletchley Park and attacked messages sent by the Japanese naval attaches in Stockholm and Berlin.

2“Blissymbolics was invented after World War II by Charles K. Bliss. … It is an attempt to devise a universal writing system that can be understood by speakers of any language.” (p. 98).
