Enigma Z30 retrieved

ABSTRACT

All machines of type Enigma Z30, a model for encryption of numbers, were thought to have been destroyed. Three of these have been found in Stockholm. They were bought for commercial use around 1930. The machines and the background are described.

Anders Wik has worked many years at the National Defence Radio Establishment in Stockholm, Sweden. He started as a cryptologist, worked with crypto and information assurance, and retired in 2008 as deputy director. Since retirement, he has taken a particular interest in the history of crypto machines.
