Suburban snowmen: Facilitating factors in the careers of middle‐class coke dealers

Pages 233-253 | Received 27 Oct 1996, Accepted 14 Jan 1997, Published online: 18 May 2010

Abstract

This article is a descriptive analysis of the structural factors facilitating a career in drug dealing. A field study focusing on the commitment paths of six middle‐level, suburban‐based cocaine dealers was conducted over a 1.5‐year period. A major finding was that entry into full‐time trafficking was instituted by opportunities developed in the context of conventional occupational careers.
