Pages 25-52 | Published online: 19 Nov 2008

Abstract

Amphipods from sandy beaches of southern Chile (Maiquillahue Bay, Valdivia).

The amphipod fauna from five sandy beaches of southern Chile (Maiquillahue Bay) is represented by the following five species: Phoxocephalopsis mehuinensis n. sp. (Haustoriidae), Paracorophium chilensis n. sp. (Corophidae), Bathyporeiapus magellanicus (Oedicerotidae), Orchestoidea tuberculata y Orchestia chiliensis (Talitridae). Two of the five species are described for the first time, the others are re‐described. Ecological data of the different habitats of these five species are included. In addition, the zonation, density and biomass of all crustacean species collected from one of the five beaches are analyzed.
