Reintroducing Veterinary Quarterly

Dear Reader,

Some 30 years ago, the Royal Netherlands Veterinary Association established an entirely new English journal named Veterinary Quarterly, replacing quarterly English issues which used to appear as consecutive numbers of the Tijdschrift voor Diergeneeskunde in Dutch (Editors, 1979). The scope of Veterinary Quarterly initially was wide, publishing papers on all aspects of veterinary science aimed at doing justice to the pledge to “promote and advance veterinary science and knowledge” (van Harten, 1979).

From 2002 onwards, the Royal Netherlands Veterinary Association passed over the publication of Veterinary Quarterly to Euroscience with Theo Elsinghorst and Jan Vos serving as Editors. The scope of the journal was now more focused on animal diseases. As you may know, Theo Elsinghorst and Jan Vos have stepped down as the journal's Editors and Taylor & Francis took over as publisher. The 2009 5-Year-Impact Factor of Veterinary Quarterly is a healthy 1.500, ranking the journal in the top 25% of Veterinary Science titles (© 2010 Thomson Reuters, 2009 Journal Citation Reports®).

It is my pleasure to announce the relaunch of Veterinary Quarterly with Taylor & Francis as its new publisher. You may know Taylor & Francis through journals such as Avian Pathology, British Poultry Science and Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science, being an expert scholarly publisher, collaborating with 460 societies and institutions worldwide. We want Veterinary Quarterly to flourish, building on the Editorial team's excellent achievements to date, and backed by the professional team at Taylor & Francis. Veterinary Quarterly is a general, international veterinary journal publishing review articles and research in the field of animal diseases (including the pathophysiology of a specific disease). Single case reports or short communications describing a newly recognized disease or important variation of a well-recognized disease are welcome.

On behalf of the Editorial board and Taylor & Francis, I am confident that Veterinary Quarterly will be well received and hope that the relaunched journal will attract your contribution in order to provide an evidence-based approach to veterinary practice.
