Abstract

We report the case of a 54-year-old female patient, who underwent lateral orbitotomy for a right retrobulbar mass. A cavernous hemangioma was suspected on imaging; however, the histological examination unexpectedly revealed a WHO I° meningioma. Visual function, motility, and pupillary and fundus changes fully recovered within a three-month period after surgery. At the five-year follow-up, there was no evidence of local recurrence. Our case adds to the small number of cases with full recovery of visual function after surgery for optic nerve sheath meningioma reported in the literature to date.
