Abstract
This paper investigates the possibility of strengthening an ordinary vibrated concrete (OVC) by a steel fiber (SF) reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC) at the fresh and hardened state. Three types of SF have been used with different volume fraction (Vf) contents of 0.3–1%. The results show that the inclusion of SF in self-compacting concrete (SCC) helps to improve the mechanical properties of SFRSCC and the new strengthened composite OVC (SOVC), respectively, with more than 7% and 70% in compression and more than 67% and 178% in flexion. A Vf of 0.5% of SF with 50 mm of length is recommended for SOVC.
