IJPA Special Symposium Issue on: Management of Large Scale Energy Projects: Opportunities and Challenges

Management problems in large-scale systems in general and those in the energy sector in particular have always drawn the attention of researchers working in the field of mathematical modeling and optimization as well as organization theory and public administration. The spectrum of problems that emerge in managing large-scale energy systems is wide, and the aim of this Special Issue is to outline the approaches to solving only some of these problems that seem promising the most. Thus, the approaches to solving large-scale management problems in the energy sector that: (a) are based on developing new mathematical models; (b) use already existing and propose new effective methods for solving large-scale mathematical programming and game problems formulated on the basis of these models; and (c) demonstrate the applicability of decision-making tools, which these models and methods underlie, at least on some model examples properly reflecting practical needs will be the subject of consideration in this Special Issue.

Mathematical programming and game-theoretic approaches to solving the following problems will be considered in this Special Issue: (a) developing a mathematical model underlying the management of the wholesale electricity market (with respect to Russia); (b) developing new mathematical models for analyzing how the ownership bundling and government-granted monopolies in transmitting electricity affect the consumer prices for electricity; (c) analyzing the capabilities of a distributed energy system; (d) forming optimal electricity rates for a loading entity supplying a set of power consumers; (e) optimizing the transmission system for an energy market with a tree-type network as a part of this market; (f) allocating a set of charging stations along a highway crossing a geographic region; (g) determining the best line reinforcement of the existing network taking into account uncertainties associated with the demand growth, the level of renewable sources of energy penetration, and the cost of the primary energy resources; and (h) estimating the volume of financing needed for the development of a set of plants with desirable capacities for processing the regional municipal solid waste in a biomass fuel demandable in the markets of heat and power.

Topics of interest for the Special Issue include, but not limited to:

• Modeling and optimizing general energy systems,

• Modeling and optimizing electrical systems

• Models and methods for analyzing electricity markets

• Optimizing the functioning of electrical systems

• Modeling and optimizing electricity transmission systems

• Modeling the incorporation of renewable sources of energy in electrical grids

• Modeling the investment needs for financing projects in the energy sector

• Optimizing the location and the power of charging stations for electric vehicles

Submission requirements

Only papers that have not been published and are not currently under review at any other journals or any other collection of papers are welcome. The submission guidelines can be found in the IJPA Website at https://tandfonline.com/action/authorSubmission?journalCode=lpad20&page=instructions.

All the papers and any supplementary materials to them should be submitted via the IJPA submission system at: https://tandfonline.com/action/authorSubmission?journalCode=lpad20&page=instructions. Papers should not exceed 30 pages/7000 words, double spaced, inclusive of all tables, graphs, or charts and references. APA style is required. Please indicate the paper is for SI on Large Scale Energy Projects.
