One of the main activities of the International Ozone Association is to conduct annual conferences. Usually, an annual conference is held each in the Americas and in Europe. Unfortunately, due to the COVID epidemic, no in-person conferences have been held since 2019 (Atlanta, GA; Nice, France). IOA conferences are a critical venue for authors to present their research work and receive feedback from their peers, and for exhibitors to show the latest in ozone technologies. The papers presented at IOA conferences are also a major source of papers accepted for publication in Ozone; Science & Engineering (OS&E). We are pleased that we were able to return to hosting conferences in 2022.
The first conference this year was held in Las Vegas, NV August 15–18. The conference started with a keynote address “Ozone for Direct Potable Reuse: From 1994 to the 2022 California Proposed Criteria.” This theme carried throughout the conference with technical sessions focusing on water reuse, biofiltration, bromate formation and drinking water applications. There were also technical sessions on ozone system design, industrial applications and commercial processes.
The second conference was held in Toulouse, France November 28–30. The conference started with a keynote address focusing on climate change and water opportunities. Climate change results in water scarcity which increases the need for efficient processes and water reuse. The conference had a major focus in Agri-food applications, micropollutants, advanced oxidation processes and ozone system design. The applicabililty of ozone to address PFAs was addressed in a separate workshop.
The conferences were like “a breath of fresh air” continuing the path of IOA back to normal operations which had been so disrupted by the pandemic.
If you have developed ozone research, consider presenting it at an IOA conference. You will receive valuable feedback on your work which could result in a much-improved final manuscript, which could be submitted to OS&E.
