Abstract
Therapists who work with couples will frequently encounter the dynamic where one partner overfunctions and the other underfunctions. After reviewing the brief literature on this topic, the article will examine the variety of factors that may help create or maintain this common dynamic. Suggestions on how to intervene based on these considerations will also be offered.
