&
Pages 137-147 | Published online: 09 Jul 2019

Abstract

Multiple sclerosis (MS) occurs twice more frequently in women than men, and the symptoms of MS usually start between the ages of 20–40. One hundred fifty-four women who were admitted to the neurology polyclinic and diagnosed with MS according to the McDonald criteria were included in this cross-sectional study. In this study, significant results with regard to MS and marital adjustment were obtained using descriptive and correlation analyses. As a result of the study, it was determined that women's marital adjustment was moderate. Furthermore, it was determined that marital adjustment was lower in women with secondary progressive MS. Women's marital adjustment scores decreased as the duration of MS, duration of hospitalization, and the number of attacks increased.
