Abstract

We studied the influence of zeta potential altered by the molar ratio of trivalent to divalent metal ions, that is, n(M3+)/n(M2+), on the property of glutamic acid (Glu)/zinc-alumina layered double hydroxide compounds (Zn-Al-LDHs). We found that the layer charges or the zeta potentials increased gradually as the molar ratio of Al3+ to Zn2+ increased, and the layer charges had prominent effect on the samples. The crystallinity degree and the interlayer spacing increased gradually and the morphology changed from tubular or fibrous to the patelet stacking structure as the layer charges increased. Hence, the layer charges have been shown to play an important roll on the property of the Glu-LDH compounds once again.
