Abstract

A series of the waterborne polyurethane dispersions with different ratios of sulfonated ionic center were synthesized via the prepolymer mixing method. In this research, N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-aminoethane sulfonic acid sodium salt (BES sodium salt) has been used for the first time to prepare samples. The results showed that the average particle size of the obtained polyurethane dispersions decreased with increasing of BES. Also, viscosity, thermal stability, modulus, glass transition temperature (Tg), and tensile strength increased with increasing the BES contents. This is due to the high activity and powerful degree of dissociation and electrostatic interaction of groups in BES.
