ABSTRACT
Cloud point (CP) measurement of aqueous nonionic surfactant Brij-30 was studied at various concentrations of surfactants in pure and mixed system with water-soluble polymers polyacrylicacid (PAA) and polyacrylamide (PAM). The CP of Brij-30 was found to increase on increasing the surfactant concentration. The CP of Brij-30 was to initially decrease with the addition of PAA and then increase with further addition of PAA. The CP of Brij-30 was to increase with increase in concentration of PAM. The same trend was observed for all surfactant concentrations in the presence of PAA and PAM, respectively. Considering CP as a threshold temperature of the solubility, the thermodynamic parameters of the clouding process (Δ, Δ
, and Δ
) were evaluated using the “Phase Separation Model”. The results indicate that the clouding phenomenon of Brij-30 is exothermic and in the presence of additives it is an endothermic and nonspontaneous process.
