Abstract
In this study, the adsorption capacity of AgFeO2 nanoparticles toward cationic dye, Basic Violet-14 (BV-14) and anionic dye, Acid Blue-74 (AB-74) was investigated. The co-precipitation method was used to prepare spindle-shaped AgFeO2 nanoparticles. The adsorbent was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), BET analysis etc. The adsorbent provides quick and efficient adsorption of dyes with a maximum adsorption capacity of 56.44 ± 0.5 mg g−1 for AB-74 at neutral pH and 78.01 ± 0.3 mg g−1 for BV-14 at pH 9 in 30 min. The adsorption data of AB-74 and BV-14 were well described by the Langmuir isotherm model and maximum adsorption capacities (59.17 mg g−1 and 82.64 mg g−1 respectively) were found to be in agreement with experimental values. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model and the thermodynamic parameters indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process. The obtained results suggest that AgFeO2 can be an effective adsorbent for cationic and anionic dyes.
