Abstract
Based on the extended Langmuir's method, a simple expression for the calculation of the electrostatic contribution to the Gibbs energy of cylindrical micelles formation is derived from the nonlinear cylindrical Poisson–Boltzmann equation. Comparison is made with previous literature results. The expression is found to be accurate for cylindrical micelles with larger values of s or κr. This accuracy will be sufficient for most applications in colloid research.
