Residential Mobility in the Urban Homesteading Demonstration Neighborhoods

Pages 346-351 | Published online: 26 Nov 2007

Abstract

Stepwise multiple regression analysis is applied to the data set from a longitudinal survey of residents of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Urban Homesteading Demonstration neighborhoods. The Demonstration itself had no effect on moving over and beyond other background characteristics. Those who lived on the same block as homesteading properties were just as likely to move as others who lived farther away. This finding and others highlight the difficulty of holding middle-income families in this type of inner-city neighborhood.
