SYNOPTIC ABSTRACT

The performance of acceptance sampling procedures is usually assessed through the operating characteristic (OC) curves based on the assumption that the number of defects per unit is modeled by the Poisson distribution. The Poisson distribution is defined with reference to the fixed parameter λ, representing the expected number of defects per unit. When λ is assumed to vary at random from lot-to-lot, the gamma distribution is a suitable prior distribution for λ. In this paper, the nature of OC curves of single sampling plans by attributes is analysed for various sets of plan parameters based on the gamma prior and Poisson sampling distributions.
