Abstract

A reply is given to criticisms by Haynes and White concerning the article by Sollberger and Patterson on bipolar flaking. Definitions of true bipolar fracture and flaking industries are emphasized.

Abstract

Evidence is presented in contrast to Sollberger and Patterson’s position that bipolar technology is not technically advantageous. The analysis of bipolar debitage from the Escalante Ruin Group, in southcentral Arizona, indicates that the Orange Peel Flake was the object of manufacture because of specific functional advantages.
