Modelling school participation based on the theory of planned behaviour / Modelamiento de la participación escolar basado en la teoría del comportamiento planificado

Abstract

This study evaluated a predictive model of school participation based on Ajzen’s theory of planned behaviour. Attitudes towards social justice, perceived control and subjective norm on school participation were tested, mediated by the behavioural intention in favour of social justice in a sample of 443 secondary school students. The proposed model showed good fit (χ² = 597.740, df = 342; RMSEA = .041). The behavioural intentions towards social justice and perceived behavioural control were directly related to school participation. An indirect effect of perceived control on participation was detected, mediated by behavioural intention, but no evidence was found of the indirect effect of either attitude or norm on school participation.

Resumen

Este estudio evaluó un modelo predictivo de la participación escolar basado en la teoría del comportamiento planificado de Ajzen. Se probaron las relaciones entre las actitudes hacia la justicia social, el control percibido y la norma subjetiva hacia la participación escolar, mediadas por la intención conductual a favor de la justicia social en una muestra de 443 estudiantes de enseñanza secundaria. El modelo propuesto mostró un buen ajuste (χ² = 597.740, gl = 342; RMSEA = .041). Las intenciones conductuales hacia la justicia social y el control conductual percibido se relacionaron directamente con la participación escolar. Se detectó un efecto indirecto del control percibido hacia la participación, mediado por la intención conductual, pero no se encontró evidencia del efecto indirecto de la actitud ni de las normas hacia la participación escolar.
