Acknowledgements

We are thankful to the Editors of APJE for providing us with this opportunity to put together this special section, and we greatly appreciate their generous support and facilitation throughout the process. We are also deeply indebted to all the reviewers who gave their time and scholarly inputs generously for the review process and, in many cases, helped in multiple rounds of review.

Notes

1. Tempted though we are, we would deliberately refrain from delving into the debates on/around what counts as “Asia” and what does not or from engaging in the North–South and/or East–West debates. There are many others before us who have made such efforts and contributed significantly to our understanding, however, more often than not, with a conclusion that the term is more risky and debatable (e.g., see Nozaki, Openshaw, & Luke, 2005).
