Abstract
The economic growth of Brunei Darussalam is largely due to revenues generated by the oil and gas industry which today represent about 40% of the country's Gross Development Product. However, oil and gas reserves are projected to decline over the next 25‐30 years. This has intensified government efforts to diversify and expand the non‐oil and gas sectors in an attempt to attain balanced economic and social development in the years ahead. This paper examines the recently published Seventh National Development Plan 1996‐2000, focusing on the implications of the Plan for education policy and practice.
