The paper describes a real-time emission abatement scheme for achieving a satisfactory air quality level. Pre cisely, the control action consists of mixing with cleaner fuel, in presence of a forthcoming pollution episode situation (forecast by a mathematical predictor). The control scheme is simulated on a computer in a real case (i- solated stack in the Po Valley). Specifically, the results are supplied in terms of cost versus effectiveness of the real-time emission abatement.
