A Mathematical Programming Model for Optimizing a Petroleum Network of Pipelines and Depots

Pages 267-279 | Received 01 Feb 1990, Published online: 18 Jun 2013

Abstract

This paper describes a mathematical programming model for use in estimating the efficiency and capability of a network of petroleum product pipelines and depots located in a large area. The product can be moved from input points, depots and linefills to meet delivery requirements at various off take points during a given planning period. The overall planning period is divided into sub-periods in such a manner that the solution for one sub-period used to determine initial stage of the system for the following sub-period.
