Abstract
The widespread interest in researches into the area of system identification and parameter estimation during these years has been due to the advent of the digital computer. Digital computers are being using extensively for control applications. It has now become possible to realize complex algorithms through the use of software and the additional interfacing hardware. The majority of such control schemes require an adequate model to describe the underlying process. System identification has been an important tool in characterizing dynamic behaviours. This paper deals with a very popular approach of functional approximation for identifying parameters from input output data for a class systems. The operational properties of Hermite polynomials have been used in formulating an algorithm for identifying a class of time varying linear distributed parameter systems. A numerical example is given for illustration.
