Measurement of CW Interference-Induced Signal Distortion in Active and Passive Microwave Discriminators

Abstract

A co-channel interfering tone accompanying a microwave FM signal introduces nonlinear distortion in the demodulated output signal of the microwave active and passive discriminators. The percentage of distortion has been experimentally measured. It has been found that the interference-induced distortion increases almost linearly with the increase in the amplitude of the interfering tone relative to that of the signal when the interference is weak compared to the received signal. The smaller the frequency separation of the interference from the carrier, the higher is the distortion of the output signal. The experimental observation is in good agreement with the existing theory.
