The influence of level and distribution of nitrogenous fertilizer on the dry matter production of Eragrostis curvula

Abstract

212 kg N/ha was the most profitable level. With the probability of poor seasons (when 106–159 kg N/ha was more profitable), the optimum level of spring fertilization being in the region of 100 kg N and the improved distribution of growth over the season with split applications, it is recommended that such high levels be split. Where, however, a low level of fertilization is used (53–106 kg N/ha) this should preferably be applied as a single dressing.
