Notes

1 South Africa has lost a great deal of its moral authority as a soft power resource which it enjoyed in the period immediately after the 1994 elections (NPC Citation2012, 237). According to Sidiropoulos, Lalbahadur, and Grobbelaar (Citation2016), the country's soft power is rooted in ‘a moral high ground that has allowed it to punch above its weight, and this has come from its compelling peaceful transition, the narrative of reconciliation, and its commitment to good global citizenship’.
