Women in political science: (an)other look at the discipline

Pages 5-24 | Published online: 25 Feb 2007

ABSTRACT

This article is an attempt to address the invisibility of women within political science by looking at similar investigations made of the discipline in the United States of America, and by analysing the situation of women in the discipline in South Africa. Several explanations for the facts that women practitioners in South African political science are few in number and concentrated in junior ranks are discussed, and the rival merits of gender studies and women's studies are considered.
