The search for meaning in leisure pursuits: review, conceptualization and a need for a psychometric development

Abstract

These people who know no goal in life are running the course of life at the highest possible speed that they will not notice the aimlessness of it. They are at the same time trying to run away from themselves - but in vain. On Sundays, when the frantic race pauses for twenty-four hours, all the aimlessness, meaninglessness, and emptiness of their existence rises up before them once more. (Frankl, 1955: 145).
