The reason for retraction is data fabrication by the first author as concluded following investigation by the authors’ institution, Murdoch University. The institution investigation confirmed that the first author acted alone and without the knowledge of the other authors.
We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE) guidelines on retractions.
The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted’.
