The service industry research imperative

Pages 657-682 | Received 25 Jul 2011, Accepted 05 Aug 2011, Published online: 08 Feb 2012

Abstract

There is a service industry research imperative or necessity. This paper argues that this imperative is multidimensional, with micro- or firm-level research needs, macro- or regional research needs, and opportunities for examination of clusters of service industries. These research imperatives are illustrated in this paper, with suggestions of high priority topics for research by service industry scholars.
