A simple method for fitting a linear model involving variance components

Pages 435-444 | Published online: 28 Jul 2006

Abstract

This paper describes combined maximum likelihood estimation of treatment effects and variance components in a linear mixed model. Estimates are obtained by a simple modification of iterative weighted least squares. The method is illustrated using plating efficiencies of Solanum and Lycopersicon species.
