Abstract
TiCN-reinforced Co alloy coatings were successfully fabricated on H13 steel by laser cladding. The microstructure and wear properties at room temperature were investigated. The results showed that the coatings are free of defects with sound metallurgical bonding to H13 substrate. The average microhardness of TiCN-reinforced Co alloy coatings with different contents of TiCN was more than twice to three times that of the H13 steel. The laser clad TiCN-reinforced Co alloy coatings exhibited good friction-reducing and antiwear abilities at room temperature. The composite coating significantly decreased wear weight loss and wear rate as the weight fraction of TiCN increased. TiCN-reinforced Co alloy coatings with smooth worn surface were characterised by mild adhesion wear and slight plastic deformation.
