Abstract
The detailed characteristic of the tribo-layer in an age-hardening Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy was studied with advanced analysis techniques. A comprehensive picture of the tribo-layer was drawn from nanoscale to macroscale. The characterisation was done for the oxide layer (OL) that is easy to scaling off during the preparation of metallographic samples, showing a homogeneous mixture of oxide and nanocrystalline particles with a thickness of several micrometers. The mechanically mixed layer (MML) is a multi-layer structure. In addition, the spinodal structure and ordered intermetallic precipitates existing in the matrix were gradually transformed or disappeared in OL and MML. Furthermore, there is a nanocrystalline transformation on the top of plastically deformed layer (PDL), where thin twin-matrix lamellar structure and equiaxed nanocrystallines were formed.
