ABSTRACT

TiB2–TiC–NiAl composite coatings have been prepared via Plasma Cladding Process. The phase composition, microstructure and influence of Ni–Al content were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electron probe micro-analyser. The results show that the coating from Ti–B4C consists of TiB2 and TiC, while coatings from Ti–B4C and Ni–Al mixed system consist of TiB2, TiC and NiAl phases. TiB2and TiC are homogenously distributed in the coating due to NiAl additives. TiB2 exhibits hexagon or long strip shapes and TiC is tend to spherical shapes, while NiAl phase has no regular shape distributing among TiB2 and TiC particles. The prepared TiB2–TiC based composite coating shows higher density with the rising of NiAl content.
