ABSTRACT

This study investigates the capacity of youth workers in a British city to undertake health promotion work on sex-related issues and HIV/AIDS. Forty five youth workers completed a semi-structured questionnaire which examined their current work on sex-related issues and HIV/AIDS. Over half had been asked about sex-related issues by young people in the previous month, most frequently about HIV/AIDS. Over half had run formal sessions on these issues but few had received training except on HIV/AIDS. Half requested further training. It is concluded that the youth service has considerable potential for conducting effective health promotion work in this area.
