Cultural factors in sex therapy: The turkish experience

Pages 165-171 | Received 21 Sep 1998, Accepted 19 Feb 1999, Published online: 14 Dec 2007

Abstract

Cultural factors influence the presentation of problems, their management and the help-seeking behaviour of individuals and couples. Therefore a culturally tailored approach, rather than a standard one, should be preferred for successful intervention. This paper discusses some of the sociocultural factors that shape the clinical presentation of sexual problems, and which should be considered during the practice of sex therapy.
