Mesomorphism of ortho‐metallated imine complexes of the β‐diketonatoplatinum(II) fragment. Crystal and molecular structure of three platinum imine complexes

Abstract

The synthesis of a series of ortho‐metallated Pt imine complexes bound to a range of β‐diketonato ligands is described and the crystal structures of three are reported; two show unusually short F^…F contacts in the solid state. All but one of the new complexes show liquid crystal mesophases and the thermal behaviour was studied using a combination of optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The mesomorphism is compared with that of analogous palladium complexes reported previously.
