Abstract
Two new [1,2,3]‐triazole‐based liquid crystalline compounds were synthesised through Cu(I)‐catalyzed 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition of 1‐azido‐4‐decyloxybenzene or 1,3‐diazidobenzene with terminal acetylenes. Their mesophases were characterised by a combination of differential scanning calorimetry and polarising optical microscopy. The calamitic final compounds exhibited a smectic C phase over a wide temperature range. The crystal and molecular structure of compound 3a, determined by X‐ray analyses, is discussed in detail. Crystal packing of the mesogens is characterised by a parallel arrangement of the strongly intercalated molecules.
